Home   I   Activity  I   Cooling utilities

MF conseil’s experience in cooling utilities is for 10 years. We have a strong reputation by the industry and the subcontractors working in this domain.

We help customers to improve, design and extend their brand new or existing installations from the pre-project, through the study phase up to the installations realizations.

We are involved in any inexperienced but optimal new solutions.

Ammonia

MF Conseil is deeply involved in ammonia promotion as efficient frigorific fluid. It is still (as well as the CO2) the most
sustainable fluid in middle and long term.
We push our customers to use ammonia as frigorific fluid because it is natural, and is one of the best efficient fluid known.

Advantages :

  • This is a common fluid naturaly existing.

  • The TEWI which takes in account the Global Warming Impact (GWP) direct or not direct is very low compared to artificial
    fluids.

  • It looks, at normal conditions of temperature and pressure like a gas very odoriferouse

  • The specific price of one kilogram of fluid is much less than the one of the HFC.

Disadvantages :

  • The ammonia toxicity can, truly, be dangerous mostly inside the buildings. However, with a minimum of competence, rules respect of works, rules respect of safety, it is not more dangerous than other frigorific fluids. Electricity or natural gas we use every day are as dangerous as the ammonia.

MF Conseil, aware of regulatory constraints linked to ammonia use as frigorific fluid,
preconise for a while compound solutions using NH3/CO2. The CO2 is a very efficient frigorific fluid which is more reserved for freezing temperatures;

We can use it either as frigorific fluid (in cascade of the NH3) or as a heat transfert fluid (like should be the glycol water)

Advantages :

  • This is a common fluid naturaly existing.

  • The TEWI of such a frigorific installation using CO2 is very low.

  • The specific price of one kilogram of fluid is much less than the one of the

Disadvantages :

  • High pressures raised in case of installation shut (74 bars at 32°C).

  • This gas can be dangerous , mostly inside buildings (asphyxia, and body burning in cas of leak). However, with a good knowhow, regulatory rules respect, safety rules respect, this gas isn’t more dangerous than other fluids.

CO2

Inventory of regulations

MF Conseil figures out the regulatory rules about R22 here below :

  • After 2010 January the first, the installation gas uploads can be only done with recycled gas or regenerated gas from existing installations. Using new R22 is prohibited.

  • After 2015 January the first, any gas upload will be prohibited, whatever the source of R22.

  • Every R22 circuit’s sealing must be checked once to 4 times a year but by a qualified subcontractor. The frequence of inspection depends on the quantity of R22 concerned.

  • Since 2004, it is prohibited to modify R22 systems. Is allowed only disabled equipment’s replacement or equipment’s suppressing

The consequences

So, by the rules, it is urgent to prepare the future by retrofiting or replacing the R22 installations.

MF Conseil serves their customers on this fundamental point because renewing installations are often a big investment.
Furthermore, R22 penury is pretty sure before this fluid prohibition because less recycled R22 is available than the demand. The average leak level of installations is so high that the penury may occurs before 2015
